Dr. Katsumi Tanigaki graduated from Yokohama National University in 1980 and received his PhD in 1989. He started his career at NEC Central Research Laboratory in Tokyo, and became a research team leader at NEC Fundamental Research Laboratory newly launched at Tsukuba Science City in 1990. He became a professor of Department of Materials Science, Graduate School of Science of Osaka City University in 1998. He moved to Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University as a Professor in 2004. He became a Professor of Advanced Materials Research Institute (AIMR) of Tohoku University at 2009 as a leader of Materials Physics. He retired Tohoku University in 2020 and is presently leading a research group at AIMR as Emeritus Professor. He became a Senior Scientist at BAQIS in 2020 and is leading a research team of topological materials.
Katsumi Tanigaki awarded The NEC Fundamental Research Prize in 1993. He received Osaka Prize in 2000. He has published more than 300 original papers and 30 reviews and accounts.
