In February 20, 2020, the Fritz London Memorial Prize Committee announced the 2020 London Prize to be awarded to Professor Qi-Kun Xue of Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences/Tsinghua University, China, Professor Steglich of Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, Germany, and Dr. Vinokur of Argonne National Laboratory, USA.  

The Fritz London Memorial Prize is awarded to Professor Qi-Kun Xue “in recognition of his pioneering work on the experimental discovery of quantum anomalous Hall effect and edge channel in magnetic topological insulators”. Since the establishment of the London Prize in 1957, Professor Qi-Kun Xue is the first scientist from China to receive this prestigious honor. 

The Fritz London Prize was created to recognize scientists who made outstanding contributions to the advances of the field of Low Temperature Physics. The Prize is traditionally awarded in the first session of the International Low Temperature Conference, which is sponsored by the IUPAP (International Union of Pure and Applied Physics). It is awarded every three years, and is recognized as the highest honor in the field of low temperature physics in the world.  In the past 63 years, it was presented 24 times with more than 50 famous physicists awarded. Amongst these winners, 11 later won the Nobel Prize in Physics, including Dr. Lev Landau and Dr. John Bardeen (the only laureate who was awarded the Nobel Prize twice in the same field). 

The award ceremony for 2020 London Prize will be held during the 29th International Low Temperature Conference (LT29) in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, from August 15 to 22, 2020.
