The first "Engineering Salon" was successfully held

2021/05/28

On the afternoon of April 21, 2021, the Division of Quantum Engineering Research hosted the first "Engineering Salon". Discussions and experience were shared on the technical aspects of quantum chip design simulation, microwave characterization, laser direct writing grayscale exposure, FPGA support for quantum direct communication, cryogenic equipment and testing. More than 80 research scientists, postdoctoral fellows, and engineers attended the salon.

President Xiang delivered a speech on the event. He hopes that the engineers can integrate with the research groups with different goals to accomplish the projects. At the same time, engineers should also inspire the research group to promote each other, and play a key role, not just an auxiliary role, in scientific research. President Xiang expects that every engineer will have his own specialties and unique skills, and truly become the backbone of various scientific experiments in our institute.

In this session of the salon, five senior engineers presented wonderful reports:

Qichun Liu revolved around the problem that conventional test methods cannot meet the needs of special experimental design, and made a report on " Using Software to Define Device Function to Realize Microwave Characterization of Devices ";

Guangyue Wang presented " Laser Direct Writing Grayscale Exposure Process" focusing on the UV exposure lithography process;

Yan Shili gave a report on " Introduction of Low Temperature Transport Instruments and Small-Signal Measurement Technique ", discussing about the operation and maintenance of two cryogenic equipment.

This salon also set up an"Outstanding Award". A judging team, composed of representatives from researchers and engineers, selected Liu Qichun's "Using Software to Define Device Function to Realize Microwave Characterization of Devices" as the winner of this session. The report uses two examples of transmission characteristics measurement of millihertz linewidth optical coupling device and JPA noise measurement to show how to integrate existing technologies, use API interfaces to develop equipment functions, and define equipment functions with software to achieve a new convenient, effective, and efficient testing method that breaks through the limitations of the equipment's own functions. The report has detailed content and mature technical solutions with certain enlightenment and reference significance, which has been highly praised by the judging team members.
