【Title】Quantum Gradiometry and Molecular Nanodiamonds

【Speaker】

Raul Manuel Gonzalez Cornejo is a PhD student in Experimental Quantum Physics currently working at the Institute for Quantum Optics at Ulm University. He completed my undergraduate studies at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile under the supervision of Dr. Jeronimo Maze, during this period He developed a strong interest in quantum sensing using color centers in diamond, which led him to Ulm University to pursue his graduate studies under the supervision of Dr. Prof. Fedor Jelezko. His current areas of interest include using NV centers in diamonds for applications in quantum information and high-precision measurements, with potential applications in biology, quantum information and material science.

【Abstract】

Nanoscale MRI needs a sensitive detector and strong, controlled gradients. We scan an AFM tip with a magnetic coating above a shallow NV center, so it acts as a tunable gradient source and turns the NV into a quantum gradiometer that maps position into frequency at the single-spin level. I discuss the transduction mechanism, resolution limits and measured gradient maps. In the second part, I present a bottom-up synthesis of nanodiamonds from molecular nanographene precursors under HPHT conditions, which yields particles hosting SiV- and GeV- centers. These molecular nanodiamonds offer small, chemically defined probes that could bring diamond sensors closer to the sample.
