Title: Self-ordering (and superradiance) in cavity quantum-electrodynamics
About the Speaker:
I was born in Tabriz, (East) Azerbaijan, where I also did my undergraduate studies in physics at the University of Tabriz. Then I moved to Calgary, Canada, and did my graduate studies in experimental and theoretical physics at the University of Calgary. After that I moved to Innsbruck, Austria, to conduct theoretical research on cavity quantum electrodynamics as a postdoctoral fellow. I am currently a FWF Stand-alone Fellow in the Institute for Theoretical Physics at the Universit?t Innsbruck, Austria.
I have a broad research interest, ranging from condensed-matter physics and quantum gases to quantum optics and metrology; see research and publications for more details. There is also a YouTube video highlighting one of my research work: "Quantum Light Induces an Emergent Quasicrystalline Symmetry". You can also read a simplified description of our recent, joint experiment-theory paper published in Nature here: "Quan-tum mat-ter: Tun-ing den-sity waves". There is also a university news article highlighting my single-authored work: The “su-per-ra-di-ance” revis-ited.
Abstract:
"Self-ordering" — the spontaneous emergence of order out of disorder and chaos under some critical conditions — is a ubiquitous phenomenon not only in physics, but also in chemistry, biology, social sciences, and many other fields. The most well-known example in physics is the crystallization process, while the other commonly known general examples include the collective bird flocking and fish schooling. In this talk, I will discuss the basic physics of self-ordering in open atom-cavity quantum systems [1]. In these systems, self-ordering is normally accompanied by the so-called "superradiance", which I will also explain. In the end, I will present some of our new predictions for quantized vortex self-ordering in atom-cavity systems, which leads to the so-called "rotational superradiance".
