From October 22nd to 24th, 2024, the sixth International Symposium on Quantum Physics and Quantum Information Science (QPQIS-2024) was successfully held by Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences (BAQIS). The forum has attracted extensive attention from peers both domestically and internationally. Over 300 participants from 9 countries attended the conference,engaging in discussions on the forum's theme: “Advances in Fundamental Research on Quantum States of Matter and Quantum Information.”

Prof. Qi-Kun Xue and Prof. Tao Xiang, Presidents of BAQIS, delivered speeches.

Prof. Qi-Kun Xue and Prof. Tao Xiang, both Presidents of BAQIS and Members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), served as chairpersons of the forum and delivered speeches at the opening and closing ceremonies, respectively. Dr. Huaibin Zhuang, Assistant President of BAQIS, moderated the opening and closing ceremonies.

QPQIS2024 mainly focused on quantum states of matter and quantum materials that could significantly promote the research on quantum information science and technology, including but not limited to superconductors, topological states of matter, quantum magnets, and novel semiconductors. The symposium will also discuss the applications of rapid-developing quantum information technologies such as quantum simulation and quantum sensing in the studies of novel quantum states of matter and quantum materials. The organizing committee invited 17 internationally renowned scholars from 7 countries, including China, United States of America, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Australia and Japan，such as Rainer Blatt, member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and professor at the University of Innsbruck; and Mathias Klaui, member of the European Academy of Sciences and professor at the University of Mainz (Figure 3).

To promote academic exchange and encourage broader participation, QPQIS-2024 commitee has introduced contributed sessions, including oral presentations and poster presentations, offering researchers diverse platforms to share their work and engage with the academic community. More than 100 abstracts were submitted for the contributed sessions.

Oral sessions were incorporated for the first time. The organizing committee chose 21 high-quality submissions to participate in the oral sessions. The speakers included experts and scholars from both domestic and international institutions, such as Professor Gang Chen from Peking University, Researcher Chengyong Hu from BAQIS, Professor Yuxuan Jiang from Anhui University, Professor Zizhu Wang from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, and Professor Yi Zhang from Nanjing University, etc. These presentations shared the latest research findings in the field, covering a broad range of topics and offering in-depth discussions on their respective areas, making it a major highlight of the conference (Figure 4).

The poster sessions, including onsite poster sessions and online exhibitions, also attracted broad attention, especially for early-career researchers. The poster panel, consisted of over 20 experts, including members of the organizing committee, invited speakers, and senior researchers from BAQIS, evaluated 67 high-quality submissions in terms of scientific content, design, and clarity of the presentation, and selected three Best Poster Awards. They comprehensively evaluated the 67 high-quality submissions based on scientific content, design, and clarity of presentation. President Qi-Kun Xue presented the "Best Poster Award" to the winners at the closing ceremony, along with a monetary prize to encourage their continued efforts(Figure 5&Figure 6).

This conference has been well recognized among peers in the relevant fields, playing a significant role in further cultivating an international academic atmosphere, establishing an international platform for academic exchange, and enhancing international influence for BAQIS.
