Research Area:

Semiconductor spin and topological quantum computation science and technology

About the Group:

BAQIS is establishing a top-level scientific team to perform cutting-edge research in the field of semiconductor spin and topological quantum computation science and technology. The current research interests of the team include spin, spin entanglement and spin correlation in semiconductor quantum structures; semiconductor spin qubits, quantum logic gates and quantum circuits;  topological states of semiconductor quantum structures; semiconductor-superconductor hybrid quantum structures and devices; semiconductor topological superconducting states and qubits etc. Currently, the team has several open positions for postdoctoral fellows, working on epitaxial growth of group IV and narrow bandgap III-V semiconductor quantum structures; fabrication and quantum transport measurements of semiconductor quantum devices, spin qubits and logic gates; measurement and manipulation techniques for semiconductor qubits and quantum logics gates at low-temperatures and high frequencies; semiconductor topological superconducting devices and topological qubits; design, simulation and theory of spin qubits, quantum logic gates and quantum computing chips as well as topological quantum devices, qubits and quantum gates. The team warmly welcomes highly motivated, excellent young scientists to apply for these positions.

Job Description and Requirements:

The research areas of the open positions for the next two years primarily are:

1.      Epitaxial growth of group IV and III-V narrow bandgap semiconductor heterostructures and quantum structures

2.      Fabrication and characterization of semiconductor quantum devices, spin qubits and quantum logic gates

3.      Low-temperature, high-frequency measurement and manipulations techniques for multiple semiconductor qubits and quantum logic gates

4.      Semiconductor-superconductor hybrid quantum devices and semiconductor topological superconducting quantum devices and qubits

5.      Many-body problems in semiconductor quantum devices and topological devices

6.      Theory and experiment of quantum simulation based on multiple spin qubits

7.      Theory and design for semiconductor spin and topological qubits and quantum computing chips

The basic requirements for applying for these positions are that candidates must hold a PhD degree (or an equivalent) in semiconductor or condensed matter physics, semiconductor materials and device physics and technology, low-temperature and high frequency electronics and measurement techniques, and/or quantum computation sciences and technologies. Top-level, well-established senior scientists in the field with brilliant ideas and research plans are also welcome to apply for full researcher positions in the team.

Compensation and Benefit:

1.      Competitive salary (The interview committee will evaluate your academic achievements and decide each candidate’s job level & salary);

2.      For Chinese citizens, help to apply for the government sponsored apartments;

3.      Enroll in Beijing Social Insurance System;

4.      Commercial medical plan for the successful candidates and their spouses and dependent children;

5.      Employee canteen.

Application:

Applicants should provide a cover letter including the preferred positions, a Curriculum Vita with a list of publications, a list of research grants acquired, and at least 2 recommendation letters (if you are applying for an associate researcher, 3 recommendation letters are required)  to the search committee coordinator Prof. Hongqi Xu at hqxu@pku.edu.cn and hqxu@baqis.ac.cn. Brief Introduction of BAQIS:

BAQIS was established on December 24, 2017. It is an innovative research institution initiated by Beijing Municipal Government and co-founded with China's top universities and research institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc.

Aiming at building a world-class research institution, BAQIS adopts an operating mechanism in line with international standards, coordinates all partners with their distinct and favorable resources, and vigorously introduces the world's top talent.

BAQIS endeavors to address major fundamental issues of quantum physics and quantum information research to push forward next-generation quantum science and technology advancement. BAQIS encompasses four major research fields: quantum state of matter, quantum materials and devices, quantum computation and communication, and quantum precision measurement. In the meantime, it has developed two state-of-the-art experimental platforms to support the researches, i.e. the micro-nano processing platform and the synergetic testing platform.

To tackle the grand challenges in quantum science and technology, we are making every effort to bring together excellent researchers of all levels in a dynamic and inspiring environment. In BAQIS, Principal Investigators (PIs) enjoy the freedom of making independent decisions – from the selection of research topics, recruitment of team members, to budgeting and implementing research within the frame of designated fund. We have also implemented joint-appointment allowing researchers from collaborating institutions to take partial or full responsibility for the research projects funded by BAQIS. This has enabled researchers to benefit from multiple platforms and resources for their research, and also helped to consolidate talent around the major research projects which require concerted efforts of distinct expertise.

In addition, BAQIS is building up several distinctive brands for its academic exchanges and international collaboration, e.g. the "Baiwang Forum", and QPQIS (International Symposium on Quantum Physics and Quantum Information Sciences). "Baiwang Forum" is a high-end lecture series, inviting internationally renowned scientists to present their most recent progresses in quantum research in a timely manner. QPQIS is an international conference series with an aim at discussing the frontier issues of quantum physics and quantum information sciences, as well as the cutting-edge quantum technologies. Many internationally renowned scientists from various countries including US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, etc. have been invited to talk at “Beiwang Forum”, QPQIS, and other international conferences hosted by BAQIS.

BAQIS is a young and vital research institution, with most researchers in their thirties. We strive to foster an atmosphere of creativity by encouraging risk-taking, collaboration and efficacy.  Thank you all for joining and supporting BAQIS to conduct pioneering research that may help shape the quantum future for a better world!
